Strengthening Public Safety and Community Health
Keeping neighborhoods safe and healthy requires leadership that goes beyond slogans. Throughout his time on the Renton City Council, Ryan has focused on community-centered safety, improving emergency response, and expanding health resources to support both residents and first responders.
Ryan’s approach to public safety is grounded in the principle of compassionate accountability — balancing prevention, care, and responsibility. He believes that true safety comes when we invest in mental health, housing, and community services alongside transparent, effective policing. His work has helped ensure that city services remain accessible, fair, and responsive to the evolving needs of the community.
Here’s what Ryan has accomplished on public safety and health:
✅ Supported the creation of the Downtown Patrol District Unit, allowing officers to walk the beat, engage directly with local businesses, and connect unsheltered residents to services.
✅ Voted to fund police body-worn cameras, increasing transparency and strengthening community trust.
✅ Approved mental wellness grants to support the health of first responders and ensure public safety workers have the resources they need.
✅ Strengthened local gun safety measures, protecting families and reducing the risk of violence in Renton neighborhoods.
✅ Advocated for PFAS chemical testing in local water supplies and opposed the SR 169 Asphalt Plant to protect the Cedar River and community health.
✅ Championed investments in public health services, focusing on prevention, care, and resources for vulnerable residents.
