Beyond his work on the Renton City Council, Ryan has played a key role on major regional committees, shaping countywide solutions on housing, transit, environmental sustainability, and emergency services. His leadership at the regional level has helped drive long-term strategies that benefit working families, vulnerable communities, and King County’s future.
Here’s what Ryan has accomplished at the regional level:
✅ Advanced affordable housing strategies through the King County Affordable Housing Committee, helping develop funding models, zoning solutions, and cross-jurisdictional partnerships to keep housing within reach for working families.
✅ Strengthened public transit access and equity as a member of the King County Regional Transit Committee, advocating for reliable, expanded bus and light rail service, particularly in underserved South King County neighborhoods.
✅ Balanced growth and sustainability through the King County Growth Management Planning Council, helping shape long-term regional strategies that align housing, infrastructure, and environmental goals.
✅ Promoted alternative transportation and trail access on the Eastrail Regional Advisory Council, supporting the expansion of multi-use trails that connect communities and offer safe, sustainable travel options.
✅ Oversaw exceptional fire and emergency services as a board member of the Renton Regional Fire Authority, providing fiscal oversight and strategic planning to ensure residents have access to top-tier emergency response.
✅ Collaborated on regional homelessness solutions through the South King Housing & Homelessness Partnership and the King County Regional Affordable Housing Task Force, advancing policies and funding strategies to increase affordable housing and reduce homelessness across South King County.
✅ Protected environmental resources as part of the WRIA 8 Salmon Recovery Council and King Conservation District Advisory Committee, working on salmon habitat restoration, water quality improvement, and sustainable land management.
✅ Championed outdoor recreation and community health as a board member of the Issaquah Alps Trails Club, volunteer with Renton parkrun, and past coach with Girls on the Run and Team in Training, strengthening access to trails, fitness programs, and community wellness initiatives.
