Hello, friends and neighbors,
I’m excited to share some big news with you today: I’m officially running for King County Council in District 5. This isn’t a decision I’ve made lightly. Over nearly a decade on the Renton City Council, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside many of you to make our neighborhoods safer, our housing more affordable, and our transit more accessible. Now, I’m ready to take that experience and passion to a larger stage - continuing the work that has always been at the heart of my public service.
Why I’m Running
To me, leadership isn’t about titles or accolades - it’s about showing up, listening, and delivering real results for our communities. Recently, I joined city leaders in Olympia at the Washington State Capitol, where discussions with state legislators underscored the challenges we face - from behavioral health and housing affordability to transportation and environmental sustainability. These conversations reminded me why I serve: because every day, I see the opportunity to make life better for families, small businesses, and our neighborhoods. And King County growing and evolving rapidly, it’s more important than ever to have leaders who are proactive, collaborative, and committed to working with residents to address our most pressing challenges.
I’m running because I believe in a future where we invest in community-focused public safety, support local small businesses and workforce development for robust economic growth, expand access to affordable housing through smart policies and strategic investments, and improve our transportation infrastructure to make our daily lives easier and safer.
A Track Record of Service
My time on the Renton City Council has been both an honor and a tremendous learning experience. I’ve had the opportunity to work on policies that directly impact the way we live - whether it’s improving our neighborhoods or advocating for the changes that help us all thrive. Beyond my council work, in my role as Director of Government and Community Relations at the University of Washington Bothell, I’ve been fortunate to build partnerships that enhance education, economic development, and public policy not just locally, but on a broader scale.
Community, Family, and Collaboration
I live in Renton with my wonderful wife, Dr. Stefanie McIrvin, and our two daughters, Molly and Lena. My family is a constant reminder of why I serve and why I’m committed to making our communities safer and better for everyone. Stefanie’s work as President of the Renton School Board further fuels my belief that when we come together, there’s no limit to what we can accomplish.
As I launch this campaign, I am committed to engaging directly with you - listening to your ideas, your concerns, and your hopes for our community. Please feel free to reach out to me to schedule a time to connect. I truly believe that by working together, we can build a stronger, more vibrant South King County for everyone.
Looking Ahead
I’m gearing up to kick off my campaign with a community launch event later this spring, where I’ll share more about my vision and plans for addressing the issues that matter most to us. I invite you to join me on this journey. Your insights, support, and participation are essential as we work together to create a brighter future for our region.

Thank you for your support. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and work hard for the people of South King County. Let’s build a future we can all be proud of - together.
With gratitude and determination,
